CMMC Certified CCP Professional (CCP) Training & Certification Near Washington, DC
TrainACE delivers instructor-led Certified CMMC Professional (CCP) training in Greenbelt, MD and live-online, built for professionals who already work in cybersecurity, compliance, or defense contracting and need a structured path into the CMMC ecosystem. This course prepares you for the CCP certification exam, the entry-level credential in the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program.
The Certified CMMC Professional (CCP) is a foundational credential within the CMMC ecosystem. CCPs are authorized to serve as Assessment Team Members under the supervision of a Certified CMMC Assessor (CCA), support organizations preparing for CMMC assessments, and be listed in the official CMMC Marketplace. CCP is also the required first step toward the more advanced Certified CMMC Assessor (CCA) credential.
This is an intermediate-level, practitioner-focused certification. There is no single mandatory prerequisite exam, but candidates are expected to already have real cybersecurity, IT, or compliance/assessment experience. If you are brand new to IT, this is not the right starting point — consider CompTIA Security+ first.

Why Choose TrainACE for CCP Training?
CMMC is a compliance-critical program with real consequences for defense contractors, so the quality of your training matters. TrainACE was built to give working professionals a live, accountable classroom experience instead of a self-paced video library.
- DC-area focus: TrainACE trains professionals across the Washington, DC metro area, home to one of the country's largest concentrations of defense contractors and DIB organizations directly affected by CMMC.
- Live, instructor-led format: You work through CMMC's governance model, assessment process, and scoping methodology with an instructor in real time, not through recorded lectures alone.
- Small class sizes: Enrollment is capped so you can work through assessment scenarios and ask questions in real time.
- Lifetime Career Support: TrainACE graduates retain access to Skills Clinics, Study Groups, and Career Path Recommendations after class ends.
What that means for you as a buyer
- Real accountability: Live instruction and capped enrollment mean you are not left to interpret dense CMMC source documents alone.
- Practical framing: The course is taught around how CCPs actually work on assessment teams, not just how to memorize the CMMC model.
- Honest pathway guidance: If CCP is not your best next step — for example, if you need foundational security experience first — our advisors will tell you.
The Caliber of Instructor You Can Expect
All TrainACE instructors hold active certifications in the subjects they teach and have a minimum of three years of classroom experience. Your CCP instructor holds an active Certified CMMC Professional (and, in most cases, Certified CMMC Assessor) credential and brings direct, hands-on experience supporting organizations through CMMC readiness and assessment work.
CCP Prerequisites
There is no single required prior certification for CCP eligibility. Candidates generally need a college degree in a cyber or information technology field, or two or more years of related experience — including military experience — in a cyber, information technology, or assessment field. CompTIA A+ or equivalent foundational IT knowledge is recommended but not mandatory. Formal CCP training from an approved training provider is a required step toward certification, in addition to passing the CCP exam.
Candidates who want to actively participate in CMMC assessment activities after certification must also complete a Tier 3 background investigation (or DoD-approved equivalent), which is separate from the training and exam process.
You are likely a strong fit if you
- Already work in cybersecurity, IT administration, compliance, audit, or a related technical role
- Support, or want to support, organizations in the Defense Industrial Base preparing for CMMC certification
- Are pursuing a path toward Certified CMMC Assessor (CCA) and need the required CCP credential first
- Work in consulting, GRC, or contracts management and need a working understanding of the CMMC assessment process
You may want a different first step if you
- Are completely new to IT or cybersecurity and have not yet built foundational technical knowledge
- Need an entry-level certification such as Security+ before moving into a compliance-specialist role

As of April 2026, CCP certification — including training approval, exam administration, and credentialing — is managed by CAICO, the CMMC Assessor & Instructor Certification Organization. Because this transition is recent, exact registration steps, fees, and some prerequisite documentation are still being finalized industry-wide.
What the exam is really testing
- Can you navigate the CMMC ecosystem? The exam covers the roles, responsibilities, and relationships among the Cyber AB, C3PAOs, assessors, and Organizations Seeking Certification (OSCs).
- Do you understand governance and source documents? Expect questions on how FCI and CUI are defined and protected, and how CMMC ties back to federal acquisition regulations.
- Can you apply the CMMC Assessment Process (CAP)? Scenario-based questions test your ability to work through scoping, evidence review, interviews, and reporting phases.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the CCP training?
The class is 40 hours and can be delivered in weekday, evening or saturday formats
Is CCP the right level for me?
CCP works well if you already have real cybersecurity, IT, or compliance experience and want a structured path into CMMC assessment work. If you are new to IT entirely, a foundational certification such as Security+ is a better starting point before returning to CCP.
Do I need a security clearance to become a CCP?
No. CCP candidates who want to actively participate in assessment activities must complete a Tier 3 background investigation, which establishes national security eligibility for CMMC program purposes. This is not the same as, and does not grant, a formal security clearance.
What is TrainACE's pass rate?
We do not publish a pass rate figure, and you should be skeptical of any training provider that does. Certification exams are administered independently through third-party proctoring, so training providers cannot accurately track student outcomes at scale. What we can tell you is that our instruction is live and hands-on, our instructors bring direct CMMC assessment experience.
Does CCP satisfy DoD 8140/8570 requirements?
Not directly. CCP itself has education and experience prerequisites but is not one of the baseline certifications mapped to DoD Manual 8140.03's Security Control Assessor (Work Role 612). However, CCP is a required prerequisite for CCA, and CCA candidates must hold a baseline certification aligned to that same work role. In practical terms, CCP is the credential that gets you into the CMMC ecosystem and onto the path toward roles that do carry 8140-relevant recognition.
Do I need special equipment or software?
No special software purchases are required. TrainACE provides course materials for in-person and live-online students. For live-online attendance, you will need a reliable internet connection and a computer capable of participating in the class sessions.
Where Does CCP Take You Next?
CCP is the entry point into the CMMC ecosystem, not the end of the road. Most TrainACE CCP graduates continue toward one of these next-stage credentials.
-
Certified CMMC Assessor (CCA)
The direct next step for CCPs who want to join official CMMC Level 2 assessment teams and take on formal assessor responsibilities. -
CISSP
A strong complement for CCPs moving into broader security leadership and governance roles across the DIB and federal contracting space. -
CISA
A natural lateral move for CCPs whose work leans toward audit, controls evaluation, and compliance reporting rather than technical assessment.
