CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner
CompTIA’s newest security certification is for IT workers involved with risk management and enterprise security. People who earn the CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) certification also have expertise in the integration of business, communications and computing.
According to CompTIA, a growing shortage of qualified IT security professionals threatens organizations at every level. Those willing to achieve the CASP certification can earn salary increases and promotions while helping their employers greatly improve security.
About 40 percent of the CASP exam emphasizes enterprise security, and the other sixty percent focuses on research and analysis, risk management, legal issues, and the integration of computers with business. Enterprise security involves an understanding of various encryption technologies and concepts. The topic also includes virtualized, distributed and cloud computing. Certified workers must also understand vulnerabilities related to modern IT trends. Those who qualify for the CASP certification training must also understand the security requirements needed for virtual storage, NAS, SAN, iSCSI, FCoE and other technologies as well as how to manage secure storage.

CASP also tests whether professionals have sufficient knowledge to persuade corporate managers to include IT in routine business decisions.
