How long is an MCSE 2003 certification going to be relevant, considering the new Server 2008 product is due to be released sometime later this year?

The next Server product is set to be on the market in 2008 and the tests for the next certification should be ready sometime later this year. This poses the question of how long will my MCSE 2003 be something worth having? That’s a good question because everyone must know. Microsoft’s response to that question is pretty simple, get the Server 2003 certification because the job market is going to demand this for quite some time. Stay current and upgrade to the new product so that you have the certified versatility to be marketable across the new platform as well.

The real “job demand” picture looks to spell out this way; Well, how many businesses and government agencies are still using Server 2000? A whole bunch, probably 25% or so. Migrations are tedious and many organizations have just recently made the switch to Server 03. What's more is that Server 2008 requires 64 bit network hardware which is much more expensive than what is commonly used now. An upgrade to 2008 will require that upgrade and then the Server product upgrade and therefore you won't see too many organizations eager to make the switch, especially after they just upgraded to 2003. The job market will stay on the side of 2003 for quite some time. Also, if you want to upgrade to the 2008 cert when it is available, all you would need to do is take two upgrade exams.
